Miata road trip to gulf coast

I have a weeks vacation next week and we were thinking about driving down from the Midwest to the gulf.

A few years ago we stayed in Gulfport, MS and really enjoyed it. Our room overlooked the Gulf and the whole area was great.

Does anyone near that area that know how Gulfport has recovered from the hurricane last year? We were looking for something on the Gulf and thought our tourist dollars might help out in some small way.

I'd recommend a google search for the local chamber of commerce. I'm thinking they would invite some tourism but don't know for sure. Chris

I live near New Orleans and just returned from Tennessee yesterday, making a detour through that area to check out the progress. Don't plan on staying on the Gulf, unless you're bringing a tent. However, you could stay inland and make the short drive to the beach.

Thanks for the info. Best I could find out, info is very spotty, there are 3 casinos re-opened in the Gulfport/ Biloxi area, and that's about it. No other hotels or eateries, that we could tell.

We're hoping maybe next year we can make it down there. They don't seem to be quite ready for tourism yet, and felt like I'd just be in the way.

Went to Sedona, Arizona instead and just returned yesterday.

Or you could consider going left to Florida (white powder beaches) or turning right and going to South Padre Island in Texas (white powder beaches). Have a great trip!
