They will interchange but they are differently sized.... older version is a bit bulkier....I know the 78-81 were flimsier
Stan
Maybe Joe will help on this but I bought door handles for my 76 and the original nuts wouldn't work, I had to go metric. Don't know if it was a later year GM change or a repop issue but it's not too hard to fix.

No kidding, my 80 handles broke right in the middle. Thanks Stan
The 78' I owned at one time metal worked and then broke about an inch in from the rear of the handle. What a pain in the ass opening the door was until I replaced the handle.

I believe it's 1975 and up as far as exact part numbers are concerned off the top of my head, but the later ones may work in the earlier doors with modifications.
The correct parts for either version should be available from GM or even Motormite/Help through any parts store.

More or less where mine broke, finally got tired of near breaking my fingers each time I opened the door.
Thanks Joe, I double checked the numbers and these will fit. Got a pair off ebay brand new in package for 15 bucks including shipping. Guess what my horseshoe luck is still holding, a generic model for just one was gonna cost me 34 bucks plus tax in a local shop lol
No they are not all the same. Some Aftermarket Vindors claim this, yet it is not true. I don't have a catalog here, might not even have one at the shop anymore, but one I had listed 4 different crome handles just for Camaros. Charles
The reason they break is because most of the F body doors have bad hinges/stick and people pull by the handle to compensate for a "bad" door. It fatigues the handle and it busts right at the end with about an inch to grab. LOL.
My '80 has the original door handles on it :).

I have a '79 with same broken handle. I have a replacement - any tips or anything I should know about replacing the handle?
The main thing is to be real easy on the door panels as the alignment pins tend to rip their way out of the cardboard if you aren't careful.
