My wife returned from driving our 95 explorer and said the door came open while driving. I lifted the outside handle and there was no resistance - took it out and the springs on each side were broken.
So I got another outside handle from a junkyard and put it in. The rod it attaches to can be adjusted - too much one way and the door won't latch, too much the other way and lifting the handle won't open the door. I adjusted it as much as possible to latch the door, while just barely enough to open the door with the outside handle. But the door will only close/latch if the door is closed with the gentlest pressure, barely more that not enough to even close it. Any "harder" closing and it won't latch. And it sometimes comes open while driving, expecially on rough road.
What should I check next?
