A/C Always On

I have a '94 Explorer and the A/C never shuts off even when the indicator light next to the fan speed control is off. What would be the first items to check for this type of problem?

Bear in mind that the AC will function when the selector is in any position that has air blowing at the windshield - regardless of temperature setting. The AC is used to dehumidify the air and reduce fogging.

We have several pre 94 Exs in our area.... Mine is a '92 and a good friend just traded his '92 for an '02.... no failures in the heater control quadrant as yet.... might be a climate/usage issue....

For those that care, I found the problem to be a small A/C-on switch that is activated when the vent control is moved to the Defrost position. It was sticking in the on position even when the lever was moved. Evidently this is only a problem on '94 and earlier models and is relatively common. The fix is to clean the switch.
