Anyone get a recall notice for their '02?

I got one today. Nope. Wasn't about the howling rear end. It says the top rear window portion of the hatchback could fall on someone's head and to only raise the entire unit when loading and unloading items from the rear until they get it fixed. They are supposed to replace the lift supports and hinges on the window hatch.

I saw one way early this year.... top hinges were ready to depart for places unknown. In case it seems trivial to anyone, imagine a door that size coming down on a wee tyke - but then, modern parents are in complete control, right?

This would be nice. I've had mine to the dealer twice cuase the mounts that connect the gas struts to the glass spin and then the struts pop off. I noticed the 04's have a new design to stop this.

The day I picked up my '02 XLT (used, got it about a month ago), I noticed that the right rear hinge was severely tilted to the left, liftgate was hanging down about 1/4 inch lower on the right side.

Both hinges were replaced under warranty (they broke the liftgate glass as well while doing the repair, I had to wait 6 more days to get my truck back!), and the day I picked it up the service rep told me that she expected Ford to issue a recall on those hinges. I guess this is it....

My '02 goes in Friday for a neutral tow kit (programming only) I installed the indicator lite which took all of 10 minutes. They wanted 1.5 hours for the whole job. I'm going to push the recall issue also.

Actually, installing the light is a small portion and 1.5 ain't far off the mark. After the light, there are the decals... several of them and, for liability sake, they must be placed where Ford says they must be placed. Next comes the reprogram and then testing the reprogram. It ain't always as simple as it may seem on the surface... the modern auto is an extremely complicate electro-mechanical device and the modern judicial system is an extremely complicated greed driven device.

I did everything BUT turn on the feature in the computer. The directions give exact placement of the stickers, where to tie wrap...etc; the directions were great, sooo I saved the .5 hours, they get 1 hour min. anyway. I've have "issues" with the 3 local Ford svc depts in my area, I like to do as much as possible myself. I can handle all the mechanical stuff, did it on my '00 Expedition, but when it comes to the computer stuff, I'm sunk.

I got that one too, but have been looking for one for the rear end on my '02 also.

Since a noisy rear diff is not a safety concern, I doubt that you will see this as a recall. There is, however, a TSB covering the concern and the only way to have it addressed is to visit your dealer.

When I was in having the neutral tow option turned on in the computer (only charged me $25 since I did the work :) I asked about the rear glass recall and was told there were no parts available yet. I'll bug them again in a bit. Have to bring it in for leaking driveshaft seal.

Anyone know what is supposed to break?

My 02 was a few months old when one of the hinges came completely loose - held on by only one small bolt. It was refastened - no charge and no problem since.

Those hinges are kinda "squirrelly" - I guess so the window mates with the weather strip and doesn't leak.
