Ford explorer 02 problem starting

I cannot start my car. When I turn the key in th eignition, it sounds like my battery is low but when I get it jumped with cables and I turn the key to start, all of a sudden the instrument lights are blinking disorderly and the doors lock and unlock alternatively like if the car was haunted. I tried to follow the car manual regarding how to desactivate power door trim switch but that did not help. Can anyone give me a hint on where the problem might be coming from? Thanks in advance

My 2002 explorer has the same exact problem. Have you ever determined what caused it?

I had the same problem with my 04 explorer... luck would have it i was in the middle of the bush about 3hours south east of Perth (WA) on a camping trip when my car just wouldnt start .... they finally got it into the shop but they werent able to find out why it stopped starting ... they could only assume it was a computer related problem ... they said that there were alot of error codes coming throught and that one of them indicated that the computer had been spiked. As I had told them that i had attempeted to jump start it (it started once sucessfully) it would not be covered under warranty. Now, I couldnt be bothered arguing the fact that it doesnt explain why it didnt start in the first place so i told them to just do what they had to do to get it up and running again.

They worked for 3days trying to "get in" to the computer to figure out what was wrong but eventually they were told by The Ford Australias Tech Support Team that it would be worth trying to spike the computer again ... this should hopefully clear the computer and they could re-program it ... if that failed they were told they would have to replace the computer (which was about AU$3300) ... they "re-spiked" the computer , which cleared it, then they reprogrammed it and its been fine ever since (6months). Total Cost: AU$160

I know it doesnt really explain why it wouldnt start in the first place ... but maybe its as simple as asking them to re-program the computer ?

Good Luck

Gareth

(oh yea it started ok after the first jump start ... the next day when i tried it again i had the exact same things happen as you described ... flashing instrument panel, doors going crazy, speedo going up and down and very strange messages on the display panel etc.)
