Ping: Jim Warman, Cruise Control

Hey Jim, any words "up your way" on when the TSB for the cruise control will be fixed. No one down Texas way seems to have any words of wisdom! It was initially to have been December, then moved to March and now seems to be unknown.................... Thnx; Bill

Actually a field service action ( Fordese for "recall") rather than a TSB... it has gotten more complex rather than simpler... We're still waiting for the harnesses for some cars and Explorers.... Funny you should bring it up - I had a 99 Ex in my bay this afternoon... All I could do was the interim recall (disconnect and tape up the coonector). Add in the NEW FSA... 08S01 to replace harnesses fitted to some vehicles that places the fuse on the wrong side of the circuit. and it turns into a cluster f^$k. I'm told that we can expect the necessary harnesses by mid-March.

We have lots of the original harnesses in stock but, in our area, at least, pretty much all of the units that take that harness have been serviced....

Is this the recall for the cruise "brake switch detector" near the reservoirs?

I had my 98 Ex done last year - they just added a inline fuse of some sort. Are you saying this fix isn't working or are different years of Ex's handled differently?

Al.... 05S28 has been through numerous revisions... the latest revision

05S28-S11, was released early this year. Another field service action is to replace inappropriate harnesses previously installed.... this one is 08S01.

This is where it gets confusing. 05S28 S11 states that your car should get labour op 05S28MM - this is an interim repair (disconnect the switch and tape up the connector). Yet 08S01 doesn't list your car as getting an inappropriate harness earlier....

The possibility exists that your car was given 05S28 without elligibility being checked (did you receive a notice from Ford before the recall was performed?). You can PM me your VIN and I can run OASIS in an effort to see what is going on.

Disclaimer.. this is NOT an open invitation to contact me directly. I'm sorry, I am much too busy... uninvited PMs are usually discarded without consideration.

Hey Jim - did you get my PM with my trucks info? Still wondering about that recall (it was actually 05S28 done late in 2006 on my 98 EB SOHC)...

Thx.

Allan, it's a good thing you jerked my chain... I'd checked OASIS and saw no open recalls... and promptly forgot about anything else.... including replying.... (sorry)...

This post reminded me to check "repair history".... Holy shit!!!! You are in Edmonton!!!!! I'm a little over two hours away.... go figure..

Anyway, according to repair history they performed 05S28D... But I can't find this labour op in the list (there is a 05S28SD... and 05S28DD... but neither applies to the Explorer)... The TSB still states that you should have gotten the interim repair....

At this point, I don't know what to say.... Perhaps if you contact the folks at Team Ford they can help straighten stuff out for you...

I hope that things work out well for you...

Sure, I'll check with them. The cruise has been working fine with the harness they put in so I'd hate to go back to no cruise (of course an engine fire may be worse...)

As for Edmonton I'm a native. Alway get a kick out of your "northern" references and it's nice to know I can get "local" references from an expert like yourself (you had pointed me to Carlo and Jason at Lo-cost transmission a year or so back and they were a big help).

Thanks again.
