Radio buzz from temp control dial!

1991 Ford Explorer XLT. I have a radio interference problem that is assocated with the temperature control dial turned to either max settings: hot or cold. It causes a buzzing on frequency 550 AM. Turning the dial away from the max setting about 10 degrees stops the buzzing.

Does anyone have any ideas or a similiar problem.?

Don't know if you had this problem from day one or not. It could be that the dial on the heater is generating the noise. Switches and dials have a tendency to do this when they get old and dirty. Stop at Radio Shack and buy a can of switch contact cleaner. Shoot a bit in there, rotate the dial back and forth and see if the noise goes away. If this doesn't work, see if you can giggle your antenna cable input to the radio and see if the interference goes away. If it does, then chances are you have a loose or intermittant connection in the antenna input.
