the check engine light came on when the speedometer quit working, i did replace the speed sensor it still does not work. i did retrieve the trouble coeds and it is P0500 any ideals????

It might be the speed sensor circuit and not the speed sensor itself that is causing the trouble code.

Each of those Diagnostic Trouble Codes gives a Pinpoint test which must be followed to determine the cause of the code. You cannot bypass steps and simply replace a component.
