98 Contour brake job

Aug 04, 2005 2 Replies

I am in the middle of a wheel cylinder replacement on a 98 Ford Contour, initiated after a rapd leak. I replaced the cylinder because ther was definite rust inside the cylinder and on the pistons.

Opinion: should I plan on replacing the other side as well?

This is my first time in this territory and I'm going slow and easy and following all the step by step instructions.

I would definitely do so. They are cheap anyway. I would completely replace the brake fluid too. The rust is probably an indication of excessive moisture absorbed in it.

Short answer is yes. Both cyls see the same fluid. Changing fluid every 2 years or so will extend the life of the system.
