Different color springs in drum brake hardware kit.

Jul 11, 2005 1 Replies

Why are there different color spring in a drum brake hardware kit ? Are there different strengths of return springs for the primary and secondary shoes. ? They seem about the same, except one loops over the other loops under the ancchor post.

The bottom spring that goes to one shoe and the self adjuster can only fit there.

Anybody having knowledge about this topic would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance Denny B

If you buy the hardware kit and the springs have different colors, that means different strenght. Usually there is a info sheet supplied with the kit. If not, just compare the size of the old spring with the new one. You do not mention what make or model vehicle you are working on, because on certain brands you just cannot mix up the springs.
