Problem: Doesn't want to cold start?

Nov 02, 2004 3 Replies

Ford Escort 1.3 in question dowsn't want to cold start, battery was changed, battery signal light is on, and starter won't turn, but when connected to the other car with wires it starts, what could that be?

Some mechanic sais that it is because of bad diodes in alternator? Can that be it?

How much do these diodes cost?

no... you havent given enough info

was the battery run down previously? diodes would run down the battery to nothing

Do the lights dim greatly?

No, it had about 9.5 V.

No.

Sitting, that is pretty low.

First thing you need to start off with a charged battery. Then clean and tighten all connections between the battery and starter. incuding ground cables.
