Sad day for America

This bill is not THE answer, but at least it's an answer that's better than the status quo, which managed to make our health care the costliest among the developed democracies and is doing nothing in regards to cost control. Switzerland is in second place, spending 12% of GDP on health care. If we were able to hold our costs to that level we'd save about $2,000 per American citizen. Imagine getting a $2,000 tax cut every year.

The best solution would allow anybody to choose Medicare or a private plan, but the kneejerk far right scared people by shouting "socialism!", so we're stuck with a system that provides no competition to keep private insurers in check. We should also do something to unburden doctors from so many different sets of coverage rules, which only waste their time but don't cut costs or improve treatment.

You, sir, are a LIBERAL IDIOT if you think March 21 was the best day in history. You probably even already have the mark of the beast on you.

I don't know if you heard a quote of a modern politician or if it was from one of the founding fathers - possibly in the Federalist Papers. If you want to search it from early history, one of the key words should be "invader" or "invaders" - the quote I heard stood out because "invader" or "invaders" was used instead of "enemy" that most people today would have used. But it talked about the foreign invader, or invaders, and the inside invader(s) or invader(s) from within - I can't remember the exact phrasing that was used.

Actually, a lot of people were. They believe what they hear and read. Even Mike Hunter fell for it.

Thanks to every dimwit who voted for this communist president, and also thanks to the Republicans who botched everything - including the campaign and election - and left us will little choice.

Our next best chance is in November, when we can run these creeps out of office. I hope some independents manage to find their way into congress for in that way only will there be some chance of at least a few voices speaking for the people.

This debate over health care is exactly like the one FDR fought over Social Security. This is all about taxes; all the other stuff is just a smoke screen. And just like Social Security the Nation will discover long term benefits from making all its people more financially secure with health insurance.

Ya know, if we eliminated military-oriented earmarks the DoD says are not needed, we could pay for health care without raising your taxes.

China. It's free market is blowing away the US so bad, already outproduces America for autos. I figure inside a decade, they will have a GDP larger than the US itself and will repalce the US as number 1 superpower. In many ways they already have.

As people get older, they all need health care! You may not think you will ever need this, but the day will come when you do.

When I had a heart problem 24 years ago I had heart bypass surgery the very next day. When one of my friends had and attack while hunting in Canada he was told he would be placed on a monitor and would be scheduled in five to seven weeks for surgery. He paid to be flown to the US and had bypass surgery the day he arrived. Which care would you prefer?

It wasnt "made up" by anyone, but it was very badly interpreted by a lot of people. There was a call of end of life counseling. Taken to extremes, it was called a "death panel".

Is there any precedent? Yes. The medical industry can, (has and will probably go further), a concept called "denial of services". If you dont have the insurance coverage, and if you dont have the cash in hand, you may be denied services which would have kept you alive. In contra to some of the heroics of the past, this will be "pay as you go, or go earlier"

All of the taxes on people and business start at once but the "benefits" do not kick in for three to four years from now.

Watch what happens to the price of goods and services as the corporations and business pass on their extra taxes and higher health care costs to consumers. By the way your FICA withholding is going up as well. Is this the change all the idiots voted for?

The problem is this bill is not struck down by the Supreme Court it will increase the cost of healthcare for everyone, except those that already getting free healthcare in the US under the Hill Burton Act.
