What is the standard speedometer gear on a 2wd 1996 Ford Ranger 5 speed with 3.55 rear end (M code trans, and D5 rear end code) with

The axle ratio and tire size are "flashed" (programmed) into the BCM. There are no standard vs. optional gears like in the ancient times.

Actually on a 1996 there ARE. Last year for rhe tailstock mounted VSS.1997 got the VSS in the rear diff.
