410 or 411 gear ratio Dana 30 and Ford 8.8

Hi,

I need to understand what option to go with. I am putting a Ford 8.8 rear end on my 97TJ. A typical rear end ratio for the Ford is 410, while on a Jeep it is 411. Maybe I am off base here, if so, just let me know. Should I go with a 410 or a 411 ratio? I am currently running 3.55 front D30 with a D35 rear. My new (used) Ford 8.8 is 3.27, so I have to regear anyways.

Thanks,

paul

Having 4.10 and 4.11 in the front and rear axles is normal, there is no choice, such a difference is normal. Just about every 4x4 has a .01 ratio difference between the front and rear axle and it is because of the two different ring gear sizes of the front and rear axles. Install whatever is available, 4.10 or 4.11, in the 8.8 and it will be fine.

3.55 and 3.54, 4.10 and 4.11, 3.73 and 3.74 are all common combinations.

For 33" tires, I'd regear both axles to 4.56 though, and if you plan to go to 35" tires, I'd regear to 4.88.

Hi Jerry, I understand the greater the number the better off road. If this is my daily driver, will 4.56 work on the hi-way for me? I am running a 4.0L, 5 speed. thanks, paul
