Ive recently bought a V reg 1800 Focus, when i start the engine the battery light comes on after about 30 seconds and stays on, i've changed the alternater but no luck, has anyone got any suggestions

Either you've fitted the wrong alternator- these are NOT internally regulated.
Or more likely, one of the control wires has broken where it appears out of the loom. Fairly common.
