Back of the gearbox, directly intop of the driveshafts- i.e. where the diff is. 3 wire connection. Just about reachable from ontop.

the vss is right at the back of the engine bay..on top of gearbox... looking from the front you will be on tip toes to see it has 3 pin plug on top of it easy to see from underside of car...
