460

The 460 is arguably the best gas engine in it's class. My 460 absolutely out pulls all other gas and most diesel engine rigs of similar size. Do not expect it to be economical.

Thanks for the info. I thought about buying a later model, then thought, "What the heck." Those extra $'s will buy me a lot of gas. I have a friend who is a mechanic.( Young guy) and loves to work on Motorhomes. My biggest problem will be trying to stop him from rebuilding it :-)) Just out of curiosity, what would I expect to get on a run? 1989 27' C body on a 350 chassis. Driving at ?? mph. I'm not a speeder, just don't want to annoy other drivers. Please state US Gallons or Imperial. I live in Canada. Thanks again for your input. Gerry.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 7 US mpg at 70 mph. Expect to burn through about a quart of oil, also. It's normal for these engines with the load on them.

That engine would sure enough rev higher than my '75 360 light duty.

Anyway my 360 always used oil too, but since the rebuild, not a drop;) with its new valves, guides and seals.

Mobil 1 since the re-build, couldn't before.

Very powerful and _very thirsty_, like GM's 454. Except between 6-8 mpg. Very doubtful you will get into double digits.

Tune it up nicely, get new O2 sensor, clean EGR valve, new plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor, all filters, etc. Replace all radiator and heater hoses, repack wheel bearings, rear differential fluid, etc.

If you don't have overdrive, it will rev high, about 3,000 rpms or more, so that watch your oil consumption, it is known for that.

Your rear axle makes a difference in mileage, I imagine you have at least 4.10, maybe even lower. That will greatly increase your weight capacity, but increase rpms and of course decrease mpg.

C6 is a good heavy duty tranny, more reliable than the OD version but only 3 speed.

The engine can last 200,000 miles, I hear.
