I'm looking to buy a new truck to pull a gooseneck trailer hauling between
15-20,000lbs. I see that the F350, F450 and F550 all offer the same engine/transmission packages. What is the benefit of going with an F450 vs F350.

The F-350 is just not built to handle 15,000 lbs according to Ford's towing guide. At its best, it is rated for 12,800 lbs.
On the low end of your weight, you will need either an F-450 or F-550. They max out around 18,000 lbs.
On the high end, you will have to go up to an F-650. It can handle quite a bit more than 20,000 lbs.
Don't go too small or you place yourself and everyone you encounter at extreme risk with the weights you are talking about.
