F-250 Rearview Mirror

I recently purchased a 2004 F-250. The right mirror is flat, not convex like I am used to.

Does anyone out there know of a convex mirror fix for this situation?

I'm assuming you have the standard mirrors and not the towing mirrors? If so, buy a set of trailer tow mirrors because they have the flat section with a long convex section below. They'll bolt right on. I love the ones on my 2000 F350.

PepBoys has a whole section of mirror replacements, I even found replacements for my '67 bug there. It's cool, sometimes you can choose flat or convexed.

I say, check them out first then decide what to do.

I fixed a friend's mirror and figured out at the time the glue the factory used to hold the mirror in was the black silicone "adhesive" (not the ultra black). Never noticed the "adhesive" part of the discription before that. There were three studs inside the mirror housing and a dot of black silicone adhesive was palced on each one and the mirror just stuck in there. Some of the pieces were still glued into place. I figure the main trick to replacement on that type of setup is a super good cleaning because not even silicone will stick to silicone in my experience.

Yes, I have the standard factory power mirrors, non-extending.

Which trailer tow mirrors do you refer to? Do they have a Ford part number that my dealer can look up and order? Are they bolted on as an extra set of mirrors?

I still want to have the power mirror, but I really hate the blind spot on the right side with the flat mirror.

Thanx for the reply!

If you do convert the mirrors, could you post the part numbers? I would like to possibly convert a 2003 to the same.

Thanks Vince

You guys should be watching Ebay for these mirrors. I see them on there from time to time and are cheaper than buying at the dealer.

Bare in mind that if you have the non-powered mirrors, the wires may not be there (they weren't on mine)

I have the power extendable towing mirrors on my 2000 F-250 and often see them referred to as "heated". My manual says that the heaters in the mirrors work when the rear defrost is turned on. My pickup has a sliding rear window but no rear defrost. So what makes the heaters in my supposedly heated mirrors turn on to defrost them?

I have the same mirrors on my 2003 F-250 and my mirrors stay on all the time according to my manual. I think there should be switch so they are not on in the summer time unless you need them.

The heat option was added after the 2000 year model. Same for the heated seats. My 2000 F350 has neither. You can add heated mirrors if you are mechanically inclined. I believe someone posted instructions over at

If so, why are the heated mirrors mentioned in my 2000 owners manual as turning on with the non-existent rear defrost in my pickup?
