f150 or explorer

I am looking for a second vehicle to replace my Bronco II. I need to be able to pull a small boat (2000 pounds) AND have a car that a family of

4 (2 small kids) can fit in on short trips. I have been looking at both the 150 extended cab and the explorer. Again this is a second car so I want to do this for under $5000. Which of these hold up better as they get in the upper milage? any help would be great.

I would go for the 150. Depending on the year it should have a similar suspension and drive as my '92 full size Bronco. My Bronco has 173,000 miles and still going strong. Just now rebuilt the tranny. The suspension still original. No other major problems.

I just traded in my 99 explorer and bought a 01 f150 7700 gvw (snow plow prep package) so I can plow snow, carry the family in the cab comfortably and haul too. The trick is to find a used vehicle that hasn't been abused. j

Both vehicles can handle 2000 lbs. Your kids will grow but the extended cab won't. I say get a low milege 93-94 Explorer. The 4.0L OHV V6 in the Explorer will get a little better gas mileage compared the I6 and small V8 in the F-150/Bronco. The Big Bronco might be a good choice: room for

5, space in back for your gear, with three engine choices. The problem with the Bronco is the short wheel-base which isn't great for towing.

Go with the F-150 my friend. Not trying to say anything bad about for in this department but the explorer really isn't anything special. Why don't you go down to the local used car dealer and test drive both of them for around the price your looking to pay. I've owned both and I've been sticking with the same F-150 for the past five years. Just to note the explorers drive like small tanks compared to the F-150.) Nothing like a truck build tough!
