F350 E40D leaking fluid

I'm not usually in this group but I am trying to fix my son's 1997 F350 Power Stroke before he returns from active duty. Before he left he installed a shift kit and now the trans fluid leaks, appearing from near the rear of the pan.



I bought another "reusable" pan gasket from Ford and that didn't help. I then bought a new pan from Ford. Still leaks. I don't have the instructions from the shift kit, but I am wondering if something beside the pan that was removed to install the kit. It's difficult to tell if the leak of from the pan itself or maybe something up above it and above the trans mount.



Anyone have any ideas or experience with a shift kit (I can't tell you which one he bought) that might apply to the situation?

If he removed the solenoid pack to install a kit in the valve body to drill the pressure vent hole that some kits recommend, the O ring that seals the harness connector may be leaking especially if the trans is a bit over full. That would be at the right rear corner of the housing. Another problem may be over torquing the "re-useable" gasket. I still like the heavy paper gasket - not cork. The shift kit should have not requirement to disassembole any other parts that may leak externally unless he removed the tailshaft housing for some reason.

Thanks lugnut. I'm going to take another look at it today, maybe remove the crossmember to get a better look. Check the harness connector as you suggested. I am pretty sure it isn't the gasket because I tried a cork one that he had laying around and when it still leaked I got the new reusable one.
