i have a 95 ford explorer,the OD indictor just started flashing, can anyone help?

Your transmission is going bad. The ECU logged a trouble code for it, get it read out using a code reader to see what's wrong with it.

all it means is that the ECM saw something it wasn't expecting
We see that some in a towing fleet. It is usually an indication of a overheat situation or excessive converter clutch slippage. Check the fluid, then disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and see if the flashing comes back. If it does, THEN go to a place and have it scanned.

Right... maybe it's not bad, but he needs to at least have the code read out.
30 seconds disconnected from the battery will wipe out the codes and reset. 5 minutes is not necessary.

sometimes it takes a full 30 minutes with the battery cables hooked together, lights turned on to get the memory clear
