HELP!! F150 truck woes

I recently inherited a 94 f150 with some problems and am trying to figure oout how to fix them all. First of all the engine was replaced. It originally had a

5.0 in it. The guy I got it from put a 5.8 in it. He neglected to replace the computer at the same time. It ran fine for a couple of years and then decided to quit. Everything seemed to work ok, it just didnt shift exactly right. I was thinking I might get the hypertech reprogrammer to fix that. Ford says that without the original VIN it would be hard to know which computer to replace it with. Apparently there is 4 different ones for that engine and transmission combo. It has the 5.8 with an E4OD tranny. Which all this leads to my current problem. The truck ran low on fuel one night and I coasted in to the gas station. Fueled up and switched tanks to the full one. It bagan to run pretty rough and cutt off. I drove it home and now it wont crank. The pumps run as the should when I turn the ignition switch on. The truck will turn over but wont catch. I have changed the fuel filter (only one that I know of). And I have checked the fuel pressure and that is where it is supposed to be, not sure what the numbers were though. I am at loss as to what to check next. I cant have it taken to a shop to run diagnostics as it doesnt have the right computer in it.

Any help at all would be appreciated since we are down to one vehicle between 2 people and cant afford to buy another

Thanks. Mick

In a nut shell. Find a pre 82 junker and use the intake manifold, carburetor, distributor and ignition system (or any after market items). You will give up fuel economy and emission standards but it will work.
