My understanding is that Ford will not sell to Wally world any more. I heard that they wanted Ford to sell them to them cheaper and Ford said no. Same is true of the Motorcraft oil. Advance, Autozone, and Pep Boys all sell MC filters, but at a higher price. Maybe you have others in your area that may carry them. I would not suggest switching to Fram.

Fram filters have very little if any QC. The total surface area of the media is about half what others are offering. The bypass valves are flimsy and very leaky. The net result is that it stops filtering early on and dumps dirty oil back into the oil pan.

You forgot the end cap is paper where everybody else on earth uses steel!

Thanks for the link, will remember this the next time I'm tempted to buy the filter that's on sale.

I put 287,000 KM ~ 190,000 miles on my '93 Lumina 3.1L using pretty well exclusively Fram PH 3387 and PH 3980 filters changed at ~5000 miles. Used any typical " u/$ 1.00 on sale" oil from Walmart, Checker, or wherever. Was running fine and not burning any visible oil when I sold it. No engine work was ever required.

I've also put over 90,000 miles on my '91 Honda GoldWing 1500 M/C using the FRAM PH6017A filter and 90,000+ miles on my '02 Ford F350 7.3 PSD using FRAM. I ve been changing the truck filter and Walmart generic 15W-40 oil at 3000 miles and sending samples to Blackstone Labs for their analysis. Their replies indicate lower than normal impurities and wear. Their only suggestion is to "Put 5000 miles on the oil"..its too clean !

Think I'll stick with Fram.

Regarding the surface area of the media, Not all filter element 'media' is the same grade. Has this been compared ?

No reason for me to weep. I haven't used Fram filters for some time, but I didn't know there was a reason not too. I asked a simple question which in a very brief sentence could have been answered intelligently. I was not given an answer, I was given 1) a link, so I could do the research myself, and 2) an answer of "Ask any racer that question. Because Fram is garbage", which doesn't define anything nor does it give useful information as to where to get it, other than racers, which I don't know of.

All one had to do was say because based on information I have is that they use cheap materials and workmanship, and here's the link to my source.

I think maybe you need to read the thread from the beginning. I asked a simple question. You guys are awfully touchy, or at least one of you. I made no comment as to whether or not Fram was a good filter. I simply asked why wouldn't someone shouldn't switch. I was curious. I think it's interesting that you'll call me lazy for "not doing the research when all I wanted to know was why he wouldn't switch, but he was too lazy to answer a simple question. Chill dude.
