Que: Truck runs out of Gas

Jan 10, 2004 7 Replies

Ok I have 83 Ranger 2.3L 4cyl 4speed Single barrel Carb. Truck acts like it running out of gas if I go over 45 mph or I need to give a lot gas to get over hill. Its doesn't die right away but lose in power and try to backfire. If I don't slow down and pull over let it run at idle it will die and take about 8 sec to turn back over.

I tested fuel flow and that was fine. I rebuilt the carb with no luck, was hoping some stuff was inside. Fuel filter is new. I took a hot air gun to the thing on the carb to see if it would cause something it didn't. Looks like most of the vacuum line are all good shape.

Well I have run out of things to check. Was hoping someone would know what's up and maybe something I should check.

if it runs good when cold and only acts up when hot, i would replace the coil

Thats what you get for having an eco-weenie 4-banger. Do you have a beard and glasses to go with that engine? You should have no less than a V8 and better a V10. the extra power will suck the gas in the engine on any hill even it's out of tune. I feel no gilt at 10 MPG and even proud sometimes cause I'm fighting back against that NAFTA giant sucking sound!
