My old man called me this morning saying he heard the 90s on up Ford 4.0 was made by Toyota. Does anyone know if this is true? Any help is appreciated. Thanks so much-D

Utter bullshit.
That's totally untrue. The 4.0 is the same Cologne engine it has always been.

Thats what I thought too... Couldnt find any info on the web so I figured it was untrue as well. Thanks guys!
Gas guzzling and all!
Wrong - I get better mileage with my 4.0L auto than I did with my 2.3L.
2002 vs 1994 respectively.
I've heard that the A4LD transmission that was used along with the 4.0 in the early Explorers ('91- ? SUV) was made by Mazda. That is believable considering that the Mazda Navajo is pretty much the same thing as an Explorer. It also explains why the transmissions are crap.
Not here. I got around 16-17mpg normal and up to 21 hiway. It was a 5 spd
4x4 ext cab '98. Now I have a basic '04 2.3L 5spd. When new, I got 24 mpg. It kept climbing after each new full tank. Now I get 28-29mpg normally, and have hit 31.5mpg on the hiway. I estimate I could hit 34mpg if I burned a full tank on the hiway. JohnI'm nearly sure that the A4LD is a Ford transmission. You might be confusing it with the 5 speed manual "Toyo Kogyo" transmission that Ford has been using since the 80's. It is a Mazda transmission.
