Question. New to 4x4.

I am new to 4x4, my 2003 F250 4x4 (shift on the fly) is my first 4x4 vehicle. I read the manual and it only refers to shifting from 4x4 high into 4x4 low. My question is this: Is it safe to shift from 4x2, past 4x4 high, directly into 4x4 low while the truck is not moving with the trans in neutral? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I believe the vehicle has to be stopped and in park before low range engages.

I don't think it's so much a matter of idiots as just a different kind of person buying 4X4s these days. Most folks driving newer four wheel drive vehicles don't have any idea of the mechanical working of their vehicles. As our technology becomes more sophisticated fewer of us will understand how any of it works. We learn how to use it but can't explain how any of it functions. Guess that's why I like the old trucks! jor
