Towing Focus Group Test Drive

A freind on mine and I recently did extended tow tests with all of them and did not arrive at you conclusion and my friend is a ford lover too. The 6.0 PS in the ford was far noisier than the other two engine in all aspects of operation and not as well manored as the Cummins and the Dmax. The Cummins seemed to fuss the least under heavy load and the Dmax sounded an bit busier but very willing to pull while the Ford sounded too "busy" when loaded. (the cummins had better throttle responce below 2000 RPM and the Dmax over 2000 RPM and Ford just sounded labored and noisy all the time) My freind wound up buying a Dmax truck because he got a much better price than he could on the Dodge and the Ford was ruled out completley in the first round. BTW he tows a 8000 to 10000 pound large enclosed work trailer daily so towng is a big factor for him and GM also has a much better and more proven automatic behind their Dmax and word is the Ford will shortly be scraping the 6.0 PS because it has not been working out for them very well.

I use my '99 F350 7.3PS dually in my grading business to tow around my skid steer and tractor. Some are faster, some are quieter, but nothing will pull like this truck, I've tried them all.

I just can't see myself saying "I can't buy that one because it fusses too much" or, "it sounds too busy".

If you consider those things, then you need to be driving a little hybrid car.

You should hear my '88 Western Star with a 470 Caterpillar, dual stacks and no mufflers, when it's pulling 54,000 lbs out of the quarry.

hmmmm...sounds to me like I wouldn't want to listen without some heavy duty ear muffs on....lol

I tried lowering the exhaust stacks on it some time ago, so I could get under the "pug mill" at the quarry.

It was so loud, I couldn't hear the truck radio or my Nextel radio even with the windows up.

But the power it makes without the mufflers is worth it. I think.

My Windows XP startup sound is a old Ford 6.9L service truck that didn't want to start, but eventually did. It's a large file, but I'll email it to anyone who wants it. My computer starts up with a much nicer sound than the standard Microsoft "pretty bells."

You won't hear tinnitus while your computer is starting up.

Got hearing aids? They make diesals sound like they should.
