the car has a 5.0 307 and i think its the original carb. it has a very high idle even after it warms up. if i hold the spring on the carb in a certain position it slows down a little but still not enough. is the problem just the spring or is it something else? all replies appreciated

If the throttle position on the carb is ok, then I'd look for a vacuum leak (carb to manifod gasket, vacuum line, etc.).

Use spray "carb cleaner"(e.g. Prestone, STP etc.) on the inlet throttle plates until they're clean. Change your air filter regularly too.
