'92 Cavalier jerking problem

Howdy all........ :-)

'92 Cavalier

2.2 motor air conditioning

Symptoms: Intermittent jerking/hesitation Motor shut down a couple of times on my wife the other day. Easy to start

Replaced: fuel line filter air filter

** Went to replace the PVC valve, which Purolator lists as a PV900, but there doesn't seem to be a PVC valve installed on this car (also had a guy at the local parts store try to locate where it was on the car but he couldn't find it either).

Have tried using fuel injector cleaner and Methyol Hydrate in gas tank; symptoms persist.

Pulled spark plugs (which were replaced last summer) of which three appeared to be operating correcty (light golden brown discoloration) but the fourth had a mild case of a dark deposit on the firing tip with quite heavy black deposit around the plug seal ring. (Some seal ring deposit was observable on the three other plugs but just not quite as prominent as the fourth plug).

Before I bite the bullet and take this rascal to a repair shop any suggestions, tips or black magic recipes on trying to locate the fault would be much appreciated.....thanks! :-)

2.2l OHV engine...Fuel Rail injection, or Throttle Body injected?

On later models, the PCV valve is in a socket on top of the valve cover, LH side, at the rear corner. There is a short run of hose connecting it to the intake manifold. BTW, on cars so equipped, the hose is far more likely to fail than the valve itself.

-how does it idle after a cold start?

-does it quit when standing still, or when decelerating?

-does it stall with a heavy foot on the accelerator, or a light touch?

Good luck.

The plug isn't firing or you are getting oil/water in the cylinder. Take it to a qualified mechanic.....
