Ford Fiesta Automatic CTX blues

I know this is in no way helpful, so sorry in advance if it upsets you, but.....

Why'O'Why did you buy a car with this gearbox, it's ability to go wrong in the gearbox department is legendary. I have seen a CVT fiesta going through an auction house and nobody (YES) nobody has even bid on it for fear of the gearbox problems.

I have heard of them going wrong with as few as 8000 miles on the clock.

Personnally I'd sell the car on again as quick as possible. They are known to be fraught with problems, Ford even suspended production whilst it worked on a fix for the many hassles, but never did solve them. In the end they discontinued the CTX.

Increasing the cold idle speed is a get-around, for while- all it does is burn out the forward clutch pack.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

And dont buy a mk1 / 2 Mondeo 2litre auto either, nor an early 1.6 Focus auto...Are you getting the idea now?!?!

This'll be the fourth time I've posted this suggestion for the same/similar fault. I'm hoping that one time it'll be the correct diagnosis as it was for my neighbour's Fiesta auto :)

Underneath the air filter are hidden three electrical connector plugs. The pins corrode and build up a grey gunge on themselves which is not visible externally.

Seperate the three plugs one at a time, spray WD40 into each half, clean well with paper clip and cotton buds (what?? That's what I used!). Put plugs back together and seperate again. Clean again. Put plugs back together, replace air filter, start car and put in Drive. Praise Two Sheds. Hopefully.
