Thank You, I thought I was going nuts. I had the GM Geo Tracker shop manual and it did not have the correct info. With the configuration given by GM the intake was weak and the engine would not fire. Taking the advise found here I lined up cam & crank to TDC (firing position for #4) loosened the timing belt turned crankshaft independently counter clockwise 1 tooth. (360 degrees / 20 teeth = 18 degrees) with the 2 to 1 ratio between crank and cam result retarded the valve timing by 9 degrees. Once the timing belt was tightened again the engine fired right up.

I just wanted to write to affirm your post because advise from the internet is always suspect.

I just also wanted to verify this and Thank Marty for finding this out and sharing the info. This process saved me hours, possibly days, of time. Thanks Again and Yes this does work.
