GM Will Spend $2 Billion to Spruce Up Small Cars Dow Jones Business News/ Tuesday February 11, 12:41 am ET DETROIT -- The worlds biggest auto maker is counting on smaller cars to help its bottom line, Tuesdays Wall Street Journal reported. After years of raking in fat profits on big pickups and sport-utility vehicles, General Motors Corp. is spending nearly $2 billion to overhaul the other end of its lineup, bringing out a string of new or reconfigured compact cars and trucks over the next few years. GM believes that the smartly designed new models will boost its market share among cash-strapped younger buyers. Outclassed by European and Japanese competitors and underpriced by South Korean rivals, GMs current entry level lineup in the U.S. has generated losses of as much as $1 billion a year in recent years. I have a female friend who drives a crappy Daewoo Lanos hatchback. I've been telling her for 2 years to trade it in before something major breaks (will the Aveo parts fit on a Lanos?) and while the resale value isn't totally ZERO but she just smiles when I suggest it. (most) Women know nothing about cars. As long as it starts in the morning, they're happy! Women care more about nail polish colors than what they drive. Women are truly from Venus.
