2001 CR-V, Died, Won't Start

Hello group! I've been reading on some boards here trying to diagnose a problem. I was driving to church tonight in my 2001 Honda CR-V and it just went dead while driving down the road. I noticed it was like it lost power and I pressed the gas pedal and noticed that it was not responding. It may have just went dead. I pulled off to the side of the road and tried to start it. It would not start, it was turning over, was not sluggish or anything, just would not start. I added some gas to it thinking that maybe it was low and my gas gauge had quit working, but it still did the same thing. When I would turn the key to try and start it, the oil light and battery light would be on, but not really any others. Those may be th eonly ones that come on when you start it, of course at this point I don't remember. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Now,was it cranking at a normal speed,or sounding really fast? If it was sounding like it cranked fast, like a "whir",then your timing belt broke. That happened to me in a 73 Civic CVCC.

Next you have to check for spark and fuel delivery. No spark could be a bad igniter(in the distributor),or a bad coil(integral with distributor cap).Checking fuel delivery is a bit harder.

Also, the engine computer will store trouble codes, you can get them read at Autozone or do it yourself with a code reader. Did you get a yellow "check engine" light on the dash?

Most important detail is the mileage. If it's high, then the timing belt is suspect.

In my estimation it was cranking at normal, speed. The timing belt was recently changed (within the last 10-15,000 miles).

Thanks. I'm not sure the spark plugs have been changed (just don't remember now) since I've had it. My father-in-law works on Hondas and he did some work on it recently, one thing he did was change the timing belt, but I dont' know if he changed the spark plugs.

It is "high" mileage, roughly 130,000, but I just had the timing belt replaced within the last 10-15,000 miles.

Spray a little starter fluid in the intake hose. If it runs a little bit, you have a fuel problem. If it doesn't start, there's something wrong with the ignition system i.e. no spark.

Got it to my mechanic today, it was the distributor, it was shorting out. Got it replaced, running fine now! Thanks for all the help!
