Replacement remote for Elantra keyless Entry/Alarm system

I lost one of my remotes and am looking into getting a replacement. The dealer quote is $160 plus $89 to program, which is more then I can justify. Can you suggest a more affordable source? I called a local car alarm company and they said they can only provide remotes for the units they install.

I have another question about the alarm. If I arm it and then need to unlock the car with my spare key how do I turn off the alarm? Thanks for any help.

Wow, that is a ridiculous price. For the same money, maybe less, get a remote starter installed. Aside from the comfort of having a warm car in the winter, it comes with two remotes.

I've seen remotes sold mail order, but I don't know about the cost. It may be worth shopping. This is one from a Google search

Thanks for the link. A remote from that site would cost $90 new, $70 used - that's a lot more doable. Still, I think I will look around at new systems. I hadn't considered a remote starter, but I would like something that provides more in the way of audio and visual queues then my current setup. Right now it's a little hard to tell when the car is locked Vs unlocked since the only indication is a single or double flash from the parking lights.

Wow! I bought mine for $10 on Ebay, and reprogrammed it myself with half an hour and a screw driver. (You have to take off the bezel around the radio, and hold down a button on some box inside there. Look it up in the service manual at hmaservice.com and it's real easy.)

Thanks for the tips. I'll look into it.

I found a remote on Ebay, but before I buy I want to make sure I understand the programming process. I think I've found the right section on Hmaservice.com, but it looks like a "code saving tool kit" is required. Did you need this kit, or any other special tools?
