I have a 2003 S-Type R. I've had a few things stop working over the last year or so and am finding out the dealer often only has to "reboot" the computer to fix it. Is this something I can "try at home"?

I would be really interested in the replies to this because I once had the misfortune to have a 2001 Renault Scenic which kept playing up. The problem was solved by rebooting the computer by holding down a button whilst turning the ignition key.

ps If anyone is thinking of getting a Scenic then read my review at
an ignition recycle, or rebooting the on board computers, will solve any number of problems at least for the time being. To do this:
1) turn A/C, radio, lights, etc. off and wait about 30 seconds. 2) turn ignition on, but do not start, wait until all instrument panel lights go off that normally go off and the chime stops. 3) turn ignition to start engine. If you are lucky the electrical problem will be cleared and it works on some problems you might not suspect to be electrical. This does not solve any underlying problem such as a check engine light or a severe malfunction but it may get you back on the road until the dealer can properly address the problem. Unless the check engine light is flashing, the car is safe to drive. My experience is that of a Jaguar test driver. I retired about two years ago.Thanks. I'll try it. The last thing to go out was the sunroof. Wouldn't open anymore. Things usually happen on hot days.
