I've got a better answer, convert to lpg and pay only 250%
Sounds great, Jag is worth about 1200 quid, fit an LPG conversion for about
1800 quid. Then in a years time when the promise the government has made about the duty on LPG has expired you find that you're paying the same cost per gallon as you would have with petrol.
Can't you habd a government back under the sales of goods act and say that this one doesn't do what it's suppose to, can I have my money back please.
Does anybody know if we are charged VAT on the cost of the fuel alone or on the cost of fuel + duty.
Paul
Usually VAT is charged on the total cost of the item incl duties.

So does that mean we pay VAT on the duty as well and is it legal to charge VAT on a Tax

Unfortunately, yes. In fact, I was checking up on import duty tariffs and noticed that VAT is charged on Cost+freight+duties! Seems to be a standard rip-off of govts everywhere.
