How does this work? When I press the switch to increases lumbar support I can hear the motor but can't feel any thing in the seat.When I decreases the lumbar switch it seems nothing is working (no motor noise) Is this the way it works or is something wrong ? It's like this on both seats. 2003 X-Type 3.0 Thanks if you can help out. Bruce

Sounds like they made a mistake on yours. You should feel the lower part of the seat-back cushion expand / contract. At least thats how it works on my '88 XJS. Rick Piatt
There is likely something wrong with it - perhaps an air bladder with a leak. My XJ8 VDP feels like an air bladder, and it does not give enough lumbar support for my liking, but it does inflate with some slight mechanical sound and deflates silently as you describe.
