XM Satellite Radio FM Modulator Install: '02 X-Type

May 19, 2004 6 Replies

I'm attempting to install an XM Satellite Radio FM Modulator in my X-Type. In order to do this, the modulator needs to have its antenna leads (Motorola type) fitted to the OEM antenna lead. I've had the stereo headunit out of the dash, but the OEM antenna connection to the headunit is nothing like I've ever seen before! Obviously, this calls for some sort of adaptor. I've scoured the internet, been to Best Buy, checked with Crutchfield, etc. etc. but no one seems to have an antenna adaptor for the X-Type. Anyone out there know of any sources for such a thing?

Thanks,

I have the same problem...but was assured by Circuit City that they have the correct adapters. An even bigger problem is where to mount the XM receiver display.

Let me know where you decide to mount the unit. My dealership was of no help.

Good luck,

Thanks for the tip. I'll check C City out! I was in a quandry about mounting location, also. (My XM unit is the Roady, so I've got a little bit smaller a "footprint" to worry about than if it were the SkyFi unit) Finally, I decided to get a Vehicle Specific Mount. Go to:

your vehicle make, model, year, etc. The mount comes withcomplete instructions as to how to get into your dash cavity.I'll bet that I had mine installed within 15 minutes. Thanks again,

Sirs,

If you dont smoke then turn that useless tray into a hidden area for your XM.

Thanks for the tips...ashtray is too small for XM receivers. I will check out the mounting hardware. Looks like the best way to go.

You'll like it. It really makes for a clean looking install. Now if I could only find that antenna adaptor. I got online with Circuit City. Their online help wasn't. Will have to stop into one of their stores whenever I get to a larger metro area.
