2003 Wrangler with Clutch Noise

I have a 2003 Wrangler Freedom with the 4.0 engine and 5 speed trans. It soon developed a knocking noise when I pressed in the clutch and shifted. Sounds like something is loose. The dealer claims it is the throw-out bearing and no repairs can be done. Can this be true? I drove several Wranglers and never heard any noises. Thanks. Harry

Did it make that noise when you bought it new (assuming you are the original owner)? I doubt it! I would insist that they fix it. If it's the throw-out bearing, then it's too early for it to be going dry. You haven't had it in any deep mud holes have you?

Do you suppose that your dealer is really admitting that his 'technicians' are unable to do anything more complicated than change oil and rotate tires?

You might try a different dealer, or else begin the process outlined in your manual about getting DC involved. That noise is not something to ignore.

Purchased new. Now has 4000 miles. Second trip to dealer, I met with shop foreman who said Chry. would not pay for repairas it was not broke.

Time to arrange a meeting with the DC zone person. That's the next step after the dealer says he won't fix it. Frank Sawin

I have the same problem sort of. I also have a freedom edition wrangler 2003 and I get a little click in the clutch when switching gears. I haven't gone to the dealer yet though. I just thought you would like to know that your not alone

Approximately 11/21/03 05:51, Frank Sawin uttered for posterity:

Make sure you have demanded it be fixed and have written proof. And insist the service manager give his answer as to why he refuses to provide service in writing.

Then pass this on to the DC zone folks as you ask for a recommendation for another dealer more willing to honor a warranty.

Thanks for reply. Mine is not getting worse, it just should not be in a new car.

Thanks for reply. I think I will try another dealer first.

Your Wrangler is not a car. Perhaps this is the root of your problem.

Please disregard my previous post and accept my apology, I went back and read the whole thread and your Jeep certainly shouldn't be making that type of noise. If it is in fact the throwout bearing it sure as hell can be fixed by replacing the damn throwout bearing, or whatever turns out to be the source of the noise. Sheesh!

There is normally a little slop in the driveline, are you sure that it's the clutch?
