Going to look at one for sale. 2.5L 5 spd with 106,000 miles. Has hard top. $1750 Claims engine/trans strong but needs misc work to pass PA inspection. After addressing the inspection items, what else should I be looking for/at?

What part of PA are you from?
If it runs and drives good look for nothing else.. that is a STEAL!
Okay more details following a phone call to the seller who is the 2nd owner since '88.

5000 miles on Goodyear Wrangler 235 R15 tiresOther news: Took notes while talking not sure what all this means except that the garage where it's being inspected will fix it all for $900.
steering column shaft "U" joint loose, may need a steering box needs drag links? tie rod ends needs exhaust hanger bumper stops need to be welded back on? brake hose and lines need to be replaced back up light needs to be replaced? windshield frame is rusted exhaust leak at manifold

One other thing - it was brought over from France in '87 by the first owner who was in the military.

Start it up and check for any blue smoke out the tail pipe.
Also check to see if the engine ever overheated. Those iron horses would often have a shortened life due to overheating.
Check for anti-freeze in the oil, and check to see if the oil smells burnt.
Oh yeah, used to be semiannual changed to annual some years ago. We have a new emissions testing program started this year too. Whoopee!
Still interested in any additional comments on the 87 Wrangler. Going to look at it today.
