90YJ tired old dawg,,

Well, i pulled the starter,after this morning of nuthing but clicks, and only one start, had it tested, its bad, BUT, i had it tested 4 weeks ago, it was fine, so now my question is this,

yesterday when all this started it would turn the motor over, but not start the motor, now its toast, , can any electrical/computer, problem cause an alternator, and now my starter to crap out, can i have a major wiring/computer- problem?? or is the dam thing just gettin tired? , thanks, johnp dam things getting on the diagnostic computer first of the month, grrrrrrrrrr,,,,,

You have a bad electrical connection where the negative battery cable bolts to the engine block.

This is the cause of the clicking and it was/is part of the cause for the new alternator not turning on and is likely the cause of the crappy mileage and the computer forgetting how to idle. They 'all' tie directly to that bad connection.

The connection will arc eventually for a short time and allow a start and things like the alternator and computer to run but who know for the next start.

Mike you and Bill are right, bad termanal, over tightened the bolt connecting the cable, when i did the alternator, two weeks ago, pulled it through the lead, , then as bill said i kept at the starter, and toasted it, , new termanals, new used-starter,, were running, , johnp THANKS again

If it was mine, I would make sure 'both' ends of 'both' battery cables are nice and clean just for preventative medicine.
