Do the motor with the window up, it allows you more room to work. Before you start, grab the handyman's secret weapon...duct tape. Tear off a couple strips to use to hold the window in the "up" position, start the tape on the outside of the glass and wrap right over the top of the door edge, back onto the glass on the inside, this will help keep the window up, some windows have tendency to slide down (very fast) and the metal edges can / have cut fingers, wires amongst other things.,

Hello Group. I have a Haynes Repair Manual which is about a half-step above no manual at all. How do I get the key lock cylinder out? Also, when removing the power window motor, is it done with the window down or up? Thanks. Don
Lock cylinder removal: The cylinder is held in place by a horseshoe shape clip with flat edge bent up. Reach into the door cavity and feel around, the flat edge should be on the side of the cylinder closest to the mirror for easy removal. When you locate it, wedge a screwdriver between the flat edge and the cylinder and slide the clip out towards the mirror. There may be a wire attached to the end of the cylinder and there will be linkage attached. I find it easier to disconnect this stuff from the outside with the cylinder hanging out.
Power window regulator removal: To remove the regulator, grind off the rivets (7 I think). You will need the window down 3/4 to access the bolt that attaches the regulator to the glass. This bolt may be a real pain in the ass because it will likely have lock-tite on it and will spin the nut on the backside.
