98 ZJ Key Fob Transponder

98 ZJ Key Fob battery is OK but it won't remotely activate the locks. Where is the transmitter (transponder?) located in the vehicle? Also the panic alarm is now going off at random (maybe once a week) even when the Fob is hanging on the key hook in the kitchen???? Inserting the key and turning it in the door lock cancels the panic alarm - so far. Any help appreciated. Tks

I had that happen to me on my Cobra. The problem was that one of the alarm doo-hickeys (techincal talk) was not working properly. In my case it was the sensor in the trunk that went bad. Chances are that one of yours has too. To trouble shoot this track down each one and unplug it. Well, that's what you do on a Cobra, your mileage may differ.

Wow, good question. I'd look at anything that opens first. Doors, hatch and so on. In my Mustang, it was located in the deck lid above the latch and had a pretty typical looking little electrical plug that it connected with. For the doors and such it may be connected with either the button that turns the lights on and off or somehow wired into the locks.

Have a look here:

See if there is something you can pick up to give you more info.

Let us know what you find!

Oh, another option is to drop by your local dealership and ask them where the sensors are. Chances are they will tell you.
