Aluminum Dana 44

What is the real story with the Aluminum Dana 44 differential?

Just how strong (or weak) is it?

Does it have maintenance and reliability problems?

My wife's aluminum D44 in her JGC at 67,000 miles just finished its second complete rebuild complete with new ring & pinion gears again. That makes its 3rd set of R&P gears & bearings.

The axle flexes and doesn't hold up. It's also different inside so most usual lockers & LSDs meant for the cast iron D44s won't fit.

Don't even think of installing one of those crappy aluminum D44s into any Jeep you wheel with.

Is that a largely street only JGC?

So the 35c is superior then to the Dana 44a?

So you are saying that the Dana 44a has stronger axle shafts but the total unit is not even strong enough to stand up to very mild street use and this problem has existed for, at least, three years..

Yes,

As you may recall my original questions were: "What is the real story with the Aluminum Dana 44 differential? Just how strong (or weak) is it? Does it have maintenance and reliability problems?"

I am just trying to get an reply that answer them....

My son in law has an '03 with the factory towing package and, I am assuming, a Dana 44a in the back.

If you want to put something over on your son in law, just tell your daughter he's no good. No need to confuse the issue with facts. ;^)

You got several replies from an owner of the specific axle you asked about, me, and I gave you my actual real experiences with it. I also let you know that I had bad experiences with it in two different axlesGrand Cherokees that used the exact same axle you asked about. You apparently didn't like my real world experience with it so I guess you only wanted positive experiences. I now feel like the time I spent sharing what I thought was help real-world experiences with you was a

100% waste of my time. Most pe> I guess I should not be surprised........ When the topic is something
