How difficult is it to replace the rear main seal on the AMC 360 V8? Wondering.
Thanks, Greg

A little harder than removing the oil pan. ;-)

Exact same procedure as the six:
I did mine a couple of years back. It's not all that difficult. Cleaning the oil pan and the gasket residue added at least an hour to the job. To me, the tricky part was getting the oil pan re-mounted with the front and rear gaskets properly positioned. I had to re-do mine because it leaked the first time. You can find help for this online or in a Chilton's type manual. The seal replacement itself requires loosening the main bearing caps so the crankshaft will hang down just enough to remove the old seal and slide a new one in. Then you want to torque the bearing caps incrementally to 80 ftlb. Good luck. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask. I'm not a genuine mechanic, but I'll be glad to share what I know.
