Bored throttle body

Feb 28, 2004 7 Replies

Hey all,

I'm going to be boring my throttle body to 62mm. I have a source for a butterfly and a throttle plate so that's not a concern. My question:

Am I going to need a MAP sensor upgrade or anything? Anything obvious that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks, n.

There is some guy over on alt.jeep-l I think that has been trying to unload one of those for a while now.

I have seen a few for sale, so many it implies the mod doesn't work for s*it so people try it then realize they have ruined a TB so they try to find some other sucker to buy it when they go back to stock.

The thing about that mod is some folks with 4bangers try a bored over

4.0 throttle body. That only winds up causing a real touchy pedal with a huge flatspot at the top.

Basically you can't flow any more air than the engine will use and if you reduce restrictions in the intake you need to do the same to the exhaust. It's valid but usually paired with engine mods that require more air, like super/turbocharging or stroking.

Yes, you're wasting your time and money.
