The owner had this on his jeep and upgraded to a newer winch.

I was thinking of this as a secondary winch, maybe in the back? When I did a search for it on the web I saw it was mostly listed as a general use boat winch.
I thought, for 10.00 what the heck.
Any suggestions on use?

It would make a slick lift for your hard top if you mount it to the rafter in your garage. 3500 pounds might sound like enough but that's
3500 pounds *on wheels*, not stuck in muck or even sand or snow. Your 3500 pound Jeep can dig itself into about 10,000 pounds of resistance when stuck, even in slippery junk. Most "boat trailer winches" are very careful to say in some flavor of fine print "3500 lb boat". Which means it will pull a 3500 lb boat up a 20 degree or so ramp/trailer setup. It likely does NOT mean it can give a 3500 lb tug. I bet it can't lift either end of your jeep into the air if you tested it (1000-2000 lbs), and if it could pull 3500 it should easily be able to lift one end.
Assuming you find a good place to hook it to that is!
But it might lift the hard top as others have suggested, but don't stand under it!
