Commander

I stopped by the dealership tonight, they had a red Commander on the lot, it is an okay looking vehicle with a price tag of $31k, could use more ground clearance.

Yep, but it isn't a Wrangler, a friend bought one with the HEMI and it like a Hummer II, it is heavy, cumbersome, and as you said ground clearance is lacking. He got stuck twice and needed help to get out. He was embarresed when I yanked him out with my TJ on an easy trail. Jeep is trying to compete with the larger SUVs and sacrificing what they do best with their off road capability.

If I wanted to pay 36k (what my friends cost) I would buy 2-TJs and have twice the fun. I do not know where Jeep's head is but I see a pattern here. First the GC models were grocery gettertized and them the Libby the builtt as a grocery getter from the ground up and now the ultimate grocery getter the Commander.

What makes me sick is their designer's claims that they used the Grand Wagoneer as inspiration for the design. I see none of the classic curves of the GW in the Commander. It looks more like they copied an Isuzu Trooper. In the current period where retro is cool they could have had a smash hit with retro GW design, but DC missed the boat, the harbor, and the ocean. While I really could use a 7 passenger Jeep SUV, for the blandness of the Commander I'll keep my '98 TJ Sport.
